Early lifeEleanor is the oldest daughter of William who was the tenth Duke of Aquitaine and was born in Poitiers, France. The time of year she was born is currently unknown. Her mother, Aenor de Châtellerault, was the duchess of Aquitaine in Châtellerault. Aenor had married her mother’s lovers son and had three children with him, Eleanor of Aquitaine, Petronilla of Aquitaine and William Aigret who passed away at age four.
Eleanor grew up in one of the most cultured courts in Europe. She was raised by her father and younger sister since her mothers and only brothers passing in 1130. During her childhood, she was given an excellent education which was considered a standard from wealthy males. William her father hoped to obtain worldly knowledge in conclusion to things like embroidery. Therefore, this had given her assist to form education decisions. Her only brother’s death and her fathers in 1137 left her with huge heritage. When she was 15 years old she was the most eligible heiress in all of Europe, following her married to Louis who became king. In the same year, her father had died and thats when she had gotten married to Prince Louis of France who then later was king after their marriage. |
Eleanor's marriages
Eleanor and Louis were married in July 1137. After deciding on going to the crusade together, they started to question their relationship. The crusade did not go well at all and both grew very alienate to each other. Many years later Eleanor got an annulments and Louis had to deal with criticism from the public, they were given an annulment of the hands of consanguinity. Eleanor left her two daughters with the King
After two months of the annulment, Eleanor and Henry II were married. They were both blood related but the marriage went ahead. Both of the pair argued a lot but continued to have children between the years of 1152 and 1166. She separated from Henry in 1167 after the rebellion.
